FAQs
What is happening in Teacher Training Qualifications in September 2007?
A. From September 2007, all new teachers in the learning and skills sector (all post 16 education - including FE, adult and community learning, work-based learning, offender education) in England will be required to take qualifications which form part of the Qualified Teacher - Learning and Skills (QTLS) framework. The City and Guilds 7303 Award will replace the 7302 Certificate from September 2007. ALL NEW TEACHERS in the learning and skills sector must complete the City and Guilds 7303 Award. Please see our C&G 7303 website for more information
Q. Can I upgrade my C&G 7302 to the C&G 7303 Award?
A. If you have achieved the C&G 7302 within two years prior to your registration for the C&G 7303, you will still need to pass the theory and practical assignments of the C&G 7303. However, some of the work completed for the C&G 7302 can be used as APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) towards the practical assignment for the C&G 7303. Please see our C&G 7303 website for more information
Q. Is there any pre-course educational qualification required before commencing the C&G 7302 course?
A. The C&G 7302 Award is a Level 3 qualification which makes it comparable with an ‘A’ Level. Although there is no specific educational standard required for students prior to starting the course the coursework does demand a reasonable ability in writing and logical thinking. It is also useful to have at least an average ability to talk in front of a class or small group of people. English language equivalent is Key Skills Level 2 / GCSE English Grade C or above.
Q. Do you need to have any previous teaching experience?
A. You don’t need any previous teaching experience but any you do have will probably reduce your learning deficit.
Q. Where does the C&G 7302 come in the scale of teaching/training qualifications?
A. The C&G 7302 is the foundational teaching/training qualification and is the basic award necessary to function as a teacher/trainer in industry. It is a Level 3 Award. It is followed by the C&G 7407 Level 4 and the Certificate of Education.
Q. What can the C&G 7302 lead to?
A. The 7302 provides an opportunity for people to decide whether they wish to apply for the City & Guilds 7407 Certificate in Further Education Teaching, a level 4 qualification that is recommended for teaching part - time in Industry, Colleges of Further Education and much of the Adult Education Sector.
Q. Do I need to be computer literate to do the course?
A. The course is not computer based and can be completed by hand writing the assignments. Nevertheless, the use of a personal laptop/printer can be advantageous.
Q. How many hours of evening work are required during the course and is there tutoring available?
A. Approximately 2/3 hours for four nights and expert tutoring is available each evening.
Q. What does the course cost?
A. The latest course fee is here.
Q. Is accommodation available on the site?
A. Accommodation is not provided but there is a range of local hostelries ranging from B&B to 4* hotels. A list of the possible hotels etc. is provided as part of the application process.
Q. Can I
get the City and Guilds 7302 course in a local non-residential situation?
A. Many local colleges and training companies offer the C&G 7302 course. However, it is usually done by attending for one evening a week/month and thus can take from 3 to 12 months to complete. Classes are often large and getting personal attention can sometimes be difficult.
Q. Your course seems relatively expensive – what are the advantages of doing it this way?
A. Compared with your local college our course can seem relatively expensive but there are several advantages to our method which make it attractive to many students particularly those in business. These include rapid result, small classes, personal tutoring, compact timeframe for completion, no distractions, mature students and easy on-site free parking. Furthermore, to reduce the cost you can often tap into funds from your Learning Skills Council or use
Enhanced Learning Credits.
Q. Does the
C&G 7302 exempt me from any aspect of the C&G 7407 Level 4 Award?
A. The possession of the C&G 7302 does not exempt you from taking any modules in the C&G 7407 award but it does provide a strong background
for the work and provides a good indicator towards your suitability to take the next highest level of teacher qualification.
Q. Is there any lower or upper age limit for students?
A. There is no lower or upper age limit for students but you must have the
minimum capability in English and be able to stand in front of a class with presence and assurance. Also remember that the C&G 7302 award provides you with the expertise to teach your ‘subject’ so in order to
apply it you must have a ‘subject’ in which you have some status to teach.
Q. Can I start delivering training either on my own or for my own company after qualifying with the C&G 7302?
A. You can function as a trainer in any capacity that your clients will pay for but in order to deliver any officially recognised qualifications, such as Health & Safety etc., you or your company will need to be approved, as required by the appropriate awarding body, e.g. the Heath & Safety Executive.
